R. Allen Stanford may be having a tough time of it in federal detention while preparing for his criminal trial, but it has not been a bed of roses lately for his two criminal-defense lawyers, either. Senior U.S. District Judge David Hittner has denied defense attorney Michael Essmyer and his firm's second request to withdraw from the case, even though Stanford terminated Essmyer's representation in May.
