Immigration 101 for Criminal-Defense Lawyers

Many defense lawyers representing aliens may seek a plea deal because the criminal case looks bad. Be they should be careful, says David N. Strange, because what may be a good deal for a citizen may not be such a good deal for an alien. Sometimes, a criminal-defense lawyer will have to go to trial to best protect an alien client's immigration status. At other times, it may be best to take a plea deal.
