On Aug. 11, the Boeing Co. agreed to pay the federal government $25 million for allegedly violating the False Claims Act. Former Boeing employees Anthony Rico and Fernando de la Garza claimed they observed multiple violations while working at the Boeing Aerospace Support Center in San Antonio between 2002 and 2005. During this time, Boeing was under contract to perform work for the U.S. Air Force. Rico and de la Garza said they witnessed Boeing employees use substandard materials and improper procedures, misrepresent the number of hours required for jobs, and charge the Air Force at its own labor rates while actually subcontracting the work at a lower cost. Boeing did not respond to the allegations.
