It’s something associates might daydream about—the chance to say whatever they want to the firm’s managing partner without losing their job. Every year in our associates survey, we ask Am Law 200 midlevel associates to tell us, anonymously, something they’d like their firm’s head honcho to know.

Unsurprisingly, 2011′s survey had a variety of gripes (“Pay us more money,” wrote a Sullivan & Cromwell associate), along with a fair amount of praise (“Great job,” said one Latham & Watkins midlevel) and even some humor: “Open an office in Hawaii and send me there,” a Fish & Richardson associate wrote. “I’ll be your guy in Hawaii, no sweat.”
