Not many managing partners from Am Law 100 firms end up running an inner city charter school. But Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal’s Errol Stone is unique on many counts. “When [the firm] first spoke to me about the school, I didn’t even know what a charter school was–and I certainly didn’t expect it to take up the amount of time that it has taken,” Stone says. Today, he spends nearly all of his professional time on matters related to the Legacy Charter School. Three days a week, he works on-site at the Chicago school.

“I was raised with a sense that service to community is important. I served as president of my temple,” says Stone, 70. But, he adds, “This is really the most gratifying thing I’ve done in my life. . . . I’m making a contribution to really changing the lives of children and families.”
