The Effect of Capital Contributions on Law Firm Partners

Q. I am a law firm partner who is considering an in-house opportunity versus a lateral move to another firm. There are a number of factors I am weighing. My question to you focuses on a piece of the compensation puzzle, namely, the capital contribution that will be required by my prospective law firm, which wants to bring me in as an equity member. My current firm has a corporate structure and no capital is required, so this is new to me. The in-house opportunity provides a base salary, bonus and equity. Any insights would be helpful.
