DLA Piper has added a real estate partner to its Hong Kong office.

Ed Sheremeta was previously the Hong Kong-based head of the Asia real estate group for Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom. His practice includes nonrecourse financings, private equity investments, restructurings, joint ventures, and a variety of other real estate-related matters.

He has spent much of his career in Japan. Prior to joining Skadden's Tokyo office as an associate in 2000, Sheremeta worked at a Japanese law firm. He briefly left Skadden in 2006 to join Morgan Stanley Japan as a vice president in the securitized products group. He returned to the firm as a partner in 2007. In 2008, he helped launch Skadden's Shanghai office.

"Asia is increasing in prominence in the global property markets as it continues to attract high levels of investor interest," said Olaf Schmidt, the Milan-based head of DLA Piper's international real estate practice, in a statement. "Real estate is a key focus for DLA Piper and Ed's experience and skills will be a great asset to our existing offering in Asia."
