A federal judge has ruled that a French-based organization that sets standards for the international telecommunications industry must comply with federal discovery rules because the United States’ interest in free market competition is stronger than the French interest in protecting its citizens from discovery in foreign litigation.

U.S. District Court Senior Judge Robert F. Kelly of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania made his ruling March 6 in an antitrust lawsuit, Trueposition Inc. v. LM Ericsson Telephone Co .
