Pennsylvania Chief Justice Ronald D. Castille said Thursday that as the judiciary is willing to dip into its technology fund to meet operating expenses, legislators should extend a temporary fee surcharge to traffic citations in order to cover a projected $29.6 million shortfall under Gov. Tom Corbett’s budget proposal.

In prepared testimony before a hearing of the state House of Representatives Appropriations Committee, Castille said that the $8 million loan from the technology fund was “the remainder of our commitment last year of one, final $10 million loan from the judicial computer system funds.”
