Plaintiffs lawyers who are suing drugmaker Pfizer over alleged effects of the antidepressant Zoloft say that the cases shouldn’t be consolidated into a federal multidistrict litigation before a decision is made on whether the cases will be remanded to Pennsylvania state court.

The plaintiffs lawyers, who allege that birth defects were caused in children whose mothers took Zoloft during their pregnancies, asked U.S. District Court Chief Judge J. Curtis Joyner of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania to deny Pfizer’s motion to stay almost 50 Zoloft cases until a decision is made by the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation if the Zoloft cases should be consolidated in an MDL.
