Many associates feel that they don’t get enough feedback on their work from the senior associates and partners they work with. After countless years of graded assignments in school, it can be hard to adjust to evaluations that occur only once yearly. This can lead to unnecessary insecurity — or unwarranted confidence.

Senior attorneys may fail to give feedback for various reasons. Many of the lawyers you practice with have forgotten what it is like to be a junior associate and how important feedback is to new attorneys. Those attorneys are busy, and feedback takes time. Plus, it can be awkward or uncomfortable to give constructive criticism or praise.
