Electricity customers throughout the mid-Atlantic region pay billions of dollars each year for electric capacity. These payments are in addition to payments for electric energy, transmission service, distribution services and various electricity-related social programs.
The price of electric capacity is determined in annual auctions conducted by PJM Interconnection LLC (PJM), which manages the electric grid and regional electricity markets in 14 states (including Pennsylvania) and the District of Columbia.
