With the baseball season upon us, it seems appropriate to turn our attention to this year’s most ugly, messy, public divorce — that of Frank and Jamie McCourt.

The McCourts and their divorce action are particularly public because they own the Los Angeles Dodgers. Their heated public split has drawn attention to a number of interesting family law issues, including the validity of marital property agreements; California’s community property presumption; equitable distribution; and the difficulties of rendering legal advice to parties whose major assets include a baseball team.
