There is no doubt that the scandal in Luzerne County is not an isolated instance. With three common pleas court judges indicted (and a fourth, who was not accused of wrongdoing, defeated in November’s retention election), it is obvious the operation of the court is infected with a cancer of corruption.

The indictments of the judges do not pertain to solely individual acts, but reveal the men in black robes were deliberately using the machinery of the court for their own purposes. The recent Interbranch Commission hearings reveal a “see no evil” attitude of public officials and the bar. We make three suggestions for immediate action by public officials and members of the bar.
