Daniel B. Allanoff
Philadelphia attorney Daniel B. Allanoff, 51, died January 27 after a battle with lymphoma and leukemia.
Allanoff joined Meredith Cohen Greenfogel & Skirnick in Philadelphia in 1988. He later became a shareholder with the firm, where he remained for the rest of his legal career.
Allanoff began his career in the personal injury field after graduating from Dickinson College in 1983 and Temple University School of Law in 1986. He switched to antitrust class-action litigation when he joined Meredith Cohen, according to an obituary written by Joseph DePalma and Steven Greenfogel of Lite DePalma Greenberg.
"He was universally loved and respected for his levelheaded approach, his incredible judgment on life and the law and the integrity he so naturally exuded," said U.S. District Judge Mitchell Goldberg of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, a Temple classmate of Allanoff's, in an obituary. "These traits served him well as a lawyer and I am sure this is why he had such a great reputation with the judiciary."
Allanoff represented plaintiffs in complex class actions across the country, including In re Publication Paper Antitrust Litigation and In re SRAM Products Antitrust Litigation.
He also served as one of the class plaintiffs' trial counsel in the Unisys ERISA litigation tried before U.S. District Judge Herbert Hutton of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
Bruce Cohen, Allanoff's partner at Meredith Cohen, said in an obituary, "With respect to his legal acumen, Dan had an intuitive understanding of the law and how it fit into the pattern of facts which he skillfully molded to support his conclusions." •
