Founder of Mellon & Webster, Thomas E. Mellon Jr., Dies

Thomas E. Mellon Jr.

Thomas E. Mellon Jr., founder of Doylestown, Pa.-based Mellon & Webster, died Tuesday after eight years of treatment for pancreatic cancer.

After clerking for Judge William H. Hastie of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, Mellon spent seven years in the U.S. Attorney's Office, where he served as chief of both the narcotics unit and the criminal division. Mellon prosecuted the first endangered species case, which laid the foundation for today's environmental law enforcement, according to a release from Reed and Steinbach Funeral Home.

He established the firm now known as Mellon & Webster in 1982, focusing his practice on personal injury and complex commercial litigation.

Mellon received his law degree from Georgetown University Law Center and his master's from Harvard Law School. In 2012, he graduated from the Master of Bioethics program at the University of Pennsylvania, a release said.

Mellon is survived by his wife and law partner, Sara M. Webster; his sons, Thomas III, Christopher, Ryan and Henry; and his granddaughter, Julia Marie Mellon. He is also survived by his brothers, Edward and Robert; aunts, Joan Hunter and Mariann McCormick; nephews and nieces, Eddie, Sean, Peipei, Elizabeth, Lauren and Eric; and his former wife, Marilyn Mellon.

Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Episcopal Church Solebury, 6587 Upper York Road, Solebury, Pa., where the public can call from 9 a.m. prior to the service or from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Reed and Steinbach Funeral Home, 2335 Lower State Road, Doylestown. Interment is set to follow in Doylestown Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to: Thomas E. Mellon Jr. Scholarship Fund, c/o Bucks County Bar Association, 135 East State St., Doylestown or Abramson Family Cancer Research Institute at the University of Pennsylvania, 3451 Walnut St., Philadelphia. •
