In a White House news release, President Barack Obama has announced his intention to nominate Miami attorney Kirk Wagar as U.S. ambassador to Singapore.
Wagar, 44, is the founder and managing partner of Wagar Law, which represents people and small businesses in insurance disability disputes since 1998. He served as the Florida finance chair for the Obama campaign in 2008 and 2012 and raised more than $1 million for him in the last cycle.
Wagar previously served as the deputy state finance chair for John Kerry's presidential campaign.
The native of Canada has been a U.S. citizen since 2004. The former rugby player is a University of Miami Law School graduate.
Jeremy Alters, another top Obama fundraiser and friend of Wagar's, said: "I can tell you unequivocally that no one could be a better advocate for our great country than Kirk. No one deserves it more. And no one would do a better job at representing the United States abroad."
Wagar declined comment pending confirmation.
