Q: Is a law school education a good buy in the current economic environment? Why is law school so expensive?

A: A Columbia Law School education is a superb investment in a bright future; it has been for more than 150 years, and it always will be. We provide a broad and intensive learning experience for our students, and, importantly, we have committed to keeping our class sizes small. At Columbia Law School, we maintain a low student-to-faculty ratio of 9-to-1, which allows close interaction between faculty members and students. To provide this intensive experience and deliver a diverse, pragmatic curriculum, we have expanded our faculty substantially since 2004, making the current Columbia Law School faculty the largest it has ever been–without a corresponding increase in the student body. We also host a large group of international and visiting faculty who enrich our curricular offerings and our intellectual life.
