Internal reports on more than 1,000 incidents in which New York City Police Department officers fired a weapon at a civilian are about to become public as the city has decided to stop fighting disclosure.

In a stipulation signed on Aug. 17 and filed last week, the city’s Law Department dropped its appeal of a ruling by Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Emily Jane Goodman (See Profile) and agreed to release to the New York Civil Liberties Union 1,400 reports on 1,000 shootings since 1997.
