Famed sports columnist Red Smith provided brief and descriptive directions to the quaint city of Saratoga Springs for those interested in attending the summer racing meet: “From New York City drive north for about 175 miles, turn left on Union Avenue, then go back 100 years in time.” As the days of summer come to a conclusion, we will cut that journey north to approximately 150 miles, turn right on Eagle Street, and go back over the last year to look at several significant procedural decisions from the Court of Appeals.

Due to space constraints, we cannot cover all decisions in the procedural arena, but will address many of them in the hope of highlighting significant developments for the bench and bar.
