ALBANY – Court administrators yesterday identified the recipients of $12.5 million in grants from the court’s budget to provide civil legal services in New York state.
Under guidelines laid down by Chief Judge Jonathan Lippman, the funds will be used for legal representation in areas he has described as the "essentials" of life—housing, health care, education, disability benefits and employment, as well as domestic violence—and will be distributed geographically according to each region's percentage of residents within 200 percent or less of the federal poverty threshold.
