An article on the recent Surrogate’s Court decision denying a motion of four animal welfare charities seeking to limit the absolute discretion of the trustees of The Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust to apply trust funds for all charitable purposes incorrectly states the reason the inheritance of Ms. Helmsley’s dog, Trouble, was reduced (“Effort by Dog Groups to Win Favor Under Helmsely Trust Rejected,” May 6).

The article states that in 2008, the Surrogate’s Court reduced Trouble’s inheritance to $2 million from $12 million and sent the remainder to the trust “after determining that Ms. Helmsley was mentally unfit when she made her will.”
