Supreme Court Justice Robert J. Miller in Brooklyn was appointed yesterday by Governor David A. Paterson to fillthe vacancy on the Appellate Division,Second Department, created by the death on Saturday of Justice Steven W. Fisher. The appointment takes effect immediately.

Justice Miller, who was elected to the Supreme Court in 2007, has been assigned to the Commercial Division, where he tries cases and handles all commercial foreclosures. During his first two years on the bench, he was in charge of handling lawsuits against New York City.
