A Queens judge has suggested that a lawyer should have warned her client before he pleaded guilty that he could be deported even if he successfully completed a court-ordered drug treatment program.

Criminal Court Judge Joseph A. Zayas (See Profile) said it would have been “better practice” for the attorney to have “specifically advised” defendant Constantine Cristache that his guilty pleas “placed him in jeopardy of removal” even if Mr. Cristache finished the treatment program.
