Andrew Stein, a former New York City Council president, has been found in contempt after he failed to appear at a deposition over a $30,000 loan he accepted last year from Joseph H. Flom of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom. In an order filed Tuesday in Flom v. Stein, 115578/2009, Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Eileen A. Rakower (See Profile) said Mr. Stein failed to attend the April deposition, which had already been delayed one month at Mr. Stein’s request. Mr. Flom, one of Wall Street’s leading mergers and acquisitions lawyers, sought to depose Mr. Stein to gain information to execute restraining notices in an effort to satisfy a judgment for a no-interest loan he made to Mr. Stein in July 2009 that has not been repaid.
