Joseph Carney, a veteran Nassau County deputy attorney, was killed while leaving court on Tuesday when his car was struck by a stolen vehicle. Mr. Carney, 62, joined the Office of the Nassau County Attorney in 1973, where he began in the Family Court bureau and ultimately litigated complex torts. Nassau County Attorney John Ciampoli described Mr. Carney as a mentor, a teacher and “the sort of guy that if you gave him a job to do, you knew it was going to get done and you knew it was going to get done right.”
