Over time, however, a view evolved, for some corporate stakeholders, that success should be defined by evaluating businesses using a "Triple Bottom Line" comprised of its social, environmental and financial performance. Must, or may, corporations be socially responsible? Is corporate social responsibility an exercise of business judgment, or compliance with a legal mandate? The answer is: both.
