Paul Weiss Adds Partner From SEC’s Enforcement Division

The deputy director of the Securities and Exchange Commission’s enforcement division is joining Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison as a partner. Walter G. Ricciardi had been second-in-command at the SEC’s enforcement group since 2005. In this capacity he oversaw the enforcement efforts of the SEC’s regional offices and handled many of the commission’s highest profile investigations and proceedings. From April 2004 to October 2005, Mr. Ricciardi served as the district administrator of the Boston office, where he led the SEC’s enforcement and regulatory programs in the New England region. Prior to joining the agency, he worked for more than 20 years as in-house counsel at accounting firm Coopers & Lybrand and its successor firm, PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he was head of litigation. At Paul Weiss, he will be part of the firm’s securities litigation and white-collar crime practices, which have been involved in many high-profile matters in recent years. Mr. Ricciardi said yesterday he is “thrilled to have the opportunity to work with some of the best lawyers in the world.” He also explained his new job would shorten his commute, as he kept his main residence in the New York area even while working for the SEC in Boston and D.C. “I feel like I’ve been on a four-year business trip,” he said. - Anthony Lin
