U.S. Attorney Names New First Assistant

Southern District U.S. Attorney Michael J. Garcia yesterday announced changes to his executive staff. While the White House considers a recommendation that Deputy U.S. Attorney Cathy Seibel be nominated for a federal judgeship, she will serve as first assistant U.S. attorney. Lev Dassin, who has served as head of the criminal division since September 2005, will replace Ms. Seibel as deputy. Guy Petrillo, who will be serving his second stint in the office, will replace Mr. Dassin as head of the criminal division. Mr. Petrillo worked for four years at Davis Polk & Wardwell before joining the criminal division in 1990. He rose to chief of narcotics and chief appellate attorney before leaving in 1997 to become a litigation partner at Shereff Friedman Hoffman & Goodman and then Swidler Berlin Shereff Friedman, which later merged with Dechert. - Mark Hamblett
