Denis McInerney, the new chief of the U.S. Department of Justice’s fraud section, calls the number of partners at top-flight firms who want to sign up as his trial attorneys “staggering.” The fraud section needs to add more supervisors and to quickly fill vacancies, McInerney said. DOJ is looking for six fraud section deputies, as well as assistant chiefs. The deputies will oversee health care fraud, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) cases and general fraud, which includes procurement and mortgage misdeeds.
The former health care deputy chief, Kirk Ogrosky, recently joined Arnold & Porter. Deputy Chief Mark Mendelsohn, who oversees FCPA prosecutions, is preparing to leave, though he hasn’t said what he’ll do next.
