NEW BLOOD

Wayne Cohen has been inducted as the new president of the Trial Lawyers Association of Metropolitan Washington, D.C., the D.C. branch of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America. He will remain at the helm of the nearly 500-member local association until May 15, 2005. In 1993, Cohen founded D.C.’s seven-lawyer Cohen & Cohen, which represents the catastrophically injured. “As a group, our goal is to preserve the rights of injured victims,” says Cohen. “As president, I’ll try to involve more members in our programs and increase our charitable agenda.” Also, Linda Correia has taken hold of the presidential reins of the 200-member Metropolitan Washington Employment Lawyers Association, the voluntary bar for practitioners representing plaintiffs in employment matters. Correia’s term will end in April 2005. Correia is a partner at seven-lawyer Webster, Fredrickson & Brackshaw, which has offices in the District and Fairfax, Va. “I am going to do my best to make sure that through the collective efforts of MWELA members, employee rights are strengthened in the Washington metropolitan area,” says Correia.
