A federal prosecutor acknowledged on Monday that the Boston Federal Bureau of Investigation office was a “mess” during accused mobster James "Whitey" Bulger’s reign, but insisted during closing arguments that what mattered in Bulger’s trial was the accused’s involvement in 19 murders and other crimes.

Speaking for more than three hours, assistant U.S. attorney Fred Wyshak Jr. touched on corruption in the FBI Boston office during the 1970s and 1980s. “Whether you work at a bank, whether or you work at a company or the government, there may be a few dishonest people,” he said.
