The University of Nevada, Las Vegas has named a new top law school administrator: University of Illinois College of law associate dean for faculty development Daniel Hamilton. He will start at the William S. Boyd School of Law on July 1, university officials said on March 21.

"Dan Hamilton will bring with him his sterling record as a scholar, his exceptional experience as a teacher, and his experience in working with faculty, students, and alumni," university provost and former law dean John Valrey White said in a written statement.

White was named provost in May 2012. Professor Nancy Rapoport has been serving as interim dean. Hamilton joined the Illinois faculty in 2008 after a teaching stint at Chicago-Kent College of Law.

"The public law schools play such a critical role in their communities and their states, and moving from one great public to another is an honor," Hamilton said. "Great public law schools need to maintain a commitment to both accessibility and to academic excellence, and the Boyd School has a strong history of both. My job will be to build on that success."

The 15-year-old school has been especially good at establishing clinics that are closely tied to the community and forging ties with the state's legal establishment, he said.

Hamilton said he plans to spend the coming months talking with faculty, staff, students, alumni and the local legal establishment to develop his agenda.
