Crowell & Moring has expanded its tax practice in Washington, D.C., with the addition of two lateral partners and an associate from Reed Smith.
Partners Donald Griswold and Walter Nagel bring experience dealing with state and local tax matters, mergers and acquisitions, state tax planning and audit defense and litigation. Last month the firm also added partners David Blair and David Fischer to the tax group from Miller & Chevalier and Cooley, respectively.
Griswold was previously the national partner-in-charge of state tax technical services at KPMG. He focuses on consulting and planning, audit litigation and settlement and proactive recovery of tax refunds.
"At Crowell & Moring, Walt and I will be able to add our strengths to the firm's top-tier Tax Group, and ... build a leading state tax practice," Griswold said in a written statement to Legal Times. "We will be able to provide our clients with the multi-faceted tax services that they desire."
Nagel focuses his practice on tax planning, tax policy and controversies, and he has experience handling taxation of major corporations with an emphasis on technology and electronic commerce. "We'll be able to offer our clients counsel not merely on the specific tax issue they bring us, but also on other tax consequences they may not have thought of," he said in a written statement.
A Crowell spokeswoman said the firm could not yet provide the name of the new associate.
