When 750 would-be lawyers sit for the Arizona bar examination on July 24, they’ll have an opportunity to do something their predecessors couldn’t: Seamlessly transfer into six other jurisdictions without having to take another bar exam. For the first time, Arizona will administer the Uniform Bar Exam — a test designed by the National Conference of Bar Examiners to standardize the exam process and allow test takers to transfer their scores across state lines.

“It’s such a logical idea, especially in these days of vanishing state borders and increasingly national practice,” said Arizona Chief Justice Rebecca White Berch, who sits on the conference’s board of trustees and advocated for the change in her home state.
