The husband of a woman who died last year under the care of a Los Angeles psychiatrist has sued the doctor for prescribing a lethal cocktail of drugs and then soliciting $490,000 in donations from her.
According to his suit, filed on June 26 in Los Angeles County Superior Court, Brian Harvey’s wife, Phyllis Harvey, had been taking multiple prescription drugs while under the care of Dr. Alexander Bystritsky, who has a neuropsychiatric practice at the University of California, Los Angeles, Medical Center. The suit, filed against both Bystritsky and the regents of the University of California, seeks the return of the money that she gave to the doctor for research at UCLA Medical Center, plus compensatory and punitive damages.
