A federal judge has ordered Verizon Communications Inc. to provide documentation by June 30 demonstrating that it has complied with a permanent injunction barring video on-demand services that infringe on a rival’s patents.

ActiveVideo Networks Inc., which won a $115 million jury verdict last year in an underlying infringement case, had moved for an order to show cause why Verizon should not be held in contempt and sanctioned for violating the injunction, which became effective on May 23. Verizon, in response, has maintained that it has spent thousands of hours and millions of dollars creating an alternative service that doesn’t infringe on ActiveVideo’s patents.
