Sloan, now a partner at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, is returning to the high court lectern on Feb. 22, arguing pro bono in the double jeopardy case of Blueford v. Arkansas.

Sloan’s appearance will also herald Skadden’s renewed interest in Supreme Court advocacy. Like most top New York law firms, Skadden has not made Supreme Court work the priority practice that Chicago firms (think Mayer Brown and Sidley Austin) and D.C. firms (such as Hogan Lovells and Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr) have developed. Only two Skadden lawyers – Sheila Birnbaum and Jay Kasner – have argued at the high court in the last 15 years.
