Hewitt, whose resignation takes effect on June 11, will be replaced by Laura Duffy, deputy chief of the general crimes section at the U.S. attorney’s office in San Diego. Duffy, who was confirmed last month by the U.S. Senate, was sworn in as the new U.S. attorney on Wednesday.

“I am proud of what our team has accomplished over the past three years to protect and serve our community,” Hewitt said in a prepared statement. “Through Laura’s vision, the important work of prosecuting federal crimes and protecting the United States’ civil interests will only continue to improve in the years to come.”
