Our annual Appellate Hot List denotes law firms that made singular contributions to appellate practice during the past year. We asked our readers to nominate firms that earned at least one significant appellate win since January 2009 and that could boast an impressive track record overall. Out of scores of nominees, we selected 20 firms. We recognize that appellate victories tend to be the product of collaborations, and regret that space didn’t always allow us to recognize all the firms that contributed to the outcomes listed below. We’re pleased, though, to welcome a new kid to the list. Yetter, Warden & Coleman hung its shingle in 2007 but has been racking up some significant appellate victories, including last year’s U.S. Supreme Court ruling allowing political subdivisions to escape oversight under the Voting Rights Act.
