UCLA School of Law's Michael Schill
UCLA law dean leaves for Univ. of Chicago Law School
September 8, 2009
The dean of the University of California at Los Angeles School of Law is leaving to become the head of the University of Chicago Law School.
Michael Schill, who has served as dean at UCLA since 2004, will assume his new position in Chicago in January.
Schill replaces Saul Levmore, who has served as the Chicago dean since 2001. Levmore announced his intention to step down in February.
Schill was credited with sharp fundraising skills while at UCLA. He helped garner 65% of the $100 million fundraising campaign that the school announced last year. He was the first dean at UCLA's law school who was hired from the outside; he had been a professor at the New York University School of Law.
Schill said that he will help UCLA prepare for a new dean during the fall semester.
