May 4, 2009
The University of Montana School of Law has appointed its first woman dean.
Irma Russell, a professor from the University of Tulsa College of Law, will take the post on July 1. She replaces Edwin Eck, who has served as dean of the school in Missoula, Mont., since 1995.
Russell focuses her scholarship on energy and environmental law. She chairs the professionalism committee of the American Bar Association Section of Legal Education and Admission to the Bar. She is a graduate of the University of Kansas, where she earned a law degree and a master's degree in English literature.
The law school, founded in 1911, is in the third tier of U.S. News & World Report's rankings. The law school will unveil an expansion of its facility in September.
