Attorney Sheldon Sorosky of Kaplan & Sorosky represented Blagojevich during a short federal court bond hearing in Chicago after the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois earlier in the day delivered a two-count criminal complaint against the governor alleging fraud and bribery. Sorosky, who worked as an assistant attorney in the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office from 1967 to 1972 before entering private practice, left the federal courthouse without speaking to reporters.

Sorosky has known Blagojevich for decades, said other criminal attorneys in the city who declined to speak on the record. Sorosky didn’t return calls seeking comment. Blagojevich is charged with attempting to use his political office to extract favors and campaign contributions, including recent efforts to win payments in connection with his authority to appoint a U.S. Senate replacement for former senator and President-elect Barack Obama.
