Microsoft is teaming up with actress Angelina Jolie and 25 law firms and corporate law departments to launch a major pro bono initiative to represent immigrant children in the United States. Kids in Need of Defense, or KIND, represents the widespread coordination of a pro bono effort, something Microsoft hopes will serve as a model for other pro bono projects. The program will seek to help the nearly 8,000 children who each year are separated from their families and go through the U.S. immigration process, often unrepresented by counsel.
