The new system will be developed over the next three to five years and will be funded through “judicial branch resources,” the court said in a May 23 press release. Cynthia Cobbs, the director of the Administrative Office of the Illinois Courts, said the state doesn’t have an estimate of the cost, but doesn’t expect it to be “inexpensive,” given the need for updates in hardware and software.

“The implementation will require an immense effort, but the benefits in more effectively and efficiently administering the ends of justice will be well worth it for all Illinois citizens,” said Chief Justice Robert Thomas.
