LOS ANGELES Duke Law Professor Erwin Chemerinsky has officially been hired as the first dean of the University of California, Irvine (UCI)’s Donald Bren School of Law following more than a week of national protest.

On Thursday, the UC Board of Regents approved a base salary of $350,000 for Chemerinsky, who will take the post on July 1 of next year. Chemerinsky accepted the position on Monday for the second time. On Sept. 11, UCI Chancellor Michael Drake withdrew an earlier offer to Chemerinsky because he was “too politically controversial,” according to Chemerinsky.
