This property dispute followed a schism in a church congregation. Texas courts should apply the neutral principles methodology to determine property interests when religious organizations are involved, under which courts decide non-ecclesiastical issues such as property ownership based on the same neutral principles of law applicable to other entities, while deferring to religious entities' decisions on ecclesiastical and church polity questions. The court of appeals' judgment is reversed and remanded to the trial court. Texas Supreme Court, No. 11-0332, 08-30-2013.
