N.J. Court Committee Calls for E-Filing Statewide, Financed by Higher Fees
A state Supreme Court committee recommends implementation of a mandatory, system-wide electronic filing system paid for with an increase in filing fees, based on similar technology to that used in the federal courts but customized for New Jersey needs.
N.J. District Faring Passably in Speed of Motion Dispositions
More than half of New Jersey's federal judges failed to meet a national goal of deciding motions within six months, but only two - William Walls and Noel Hillman - had more than 10 overdue motions on a list published by the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts.
Civil Rights Suit vs. Town Attorney Can Go Forward
A federal judge on Wednesday allowed a civil rights suit to proceed against a municipality's outside counsel, finding disputed fact issues over whether he went beyond his role as a lawyer and acted "under color of state law."
N.J. Court Bans All Voter Contacts Within 100 Feet of Polling Places
New Jersey's Supreme Court has imposed a ban on exit polls and other "expressive activities" within 100 feet of voting places, reversing not only a 20-year-old policy allowing polling by the media but also a 2007 attorney general directive that expanded the policy to nonpartisan public interest groups.
