White & Case has entered into an exclusive alliance with a newly launched Indonesian firm.

MD & Partners will be led by Mita Djajadiredja, a former mergers and acquisitions partner at Hadiputranto Hadinoto & Partners, the Indonesian affiliate of Baker & McKenzie. Also coming aboard is Nadia Soraya, a former partner at Jakarta's Makarim & Taira S. specializing in the energy and resources sectors.

In its statement, White & Case did not disclose a headcount for the Indonesian firm beyond the two partners. A Singapore-based spokesman was not immediately available for comment.

Foreign law firms are not permitted to have offices in Indonesia or practice Indonesian law, so several international firms have sought tie-ups with local firms in order to have an on-the-ground presence in the country, one of the fastest-growing economies in the region.

Aside from Baker & McKenzie and White & Case, other firms with Indonesian alliances include Hogan Lovells, Norton Rose, and O'Melveny & Myers.

White & Case previously had a six-year affiliation with Ali, Budiardjo, Nugroho Reksodiputro, which ended in 2005.
