A Warren County courtroom has been declared “constitutionally defective” because pillars bar criminal defendants and their counsel from having a clear line of sight to jurors and witnesses.

Superior Court Judge Ann Bartlett granted a motion by Deputy Public Defender John McGuigan to move the trial of his client from Courtroom 2, which he contended is inappropriate for a criminal trial because the obstructed view of the witness box violates the right to confront one’s accusers and the blocked view of the jury interferes with the right to a fair and impartial trial.
